The training in cultivating spirit and virtue

(A) The efforts to cultivate the following four virtues

To ponder calmly on yourself and to introspect
Ponder calmly on yourself at any moment. Think if you make any mistake or do any conscience-stricken things the day before yesterday, today or now. If you do, you should feel sorry for your wrongdoing and correct it immediately. Nothing is so good as to have the idea of giving up evil and do good.

To be gentle and to choke down and to compete for nothing
In handling matters, you should resolve all the problems in the mildest, softest and most rational way. If you face external stimuli, blows, or disgraces, you should bear them with calmness and patience, and embrace them with no grudges, no ill intentions, no anger, no dispute, no opposition, no argumentation, even with a more broad-minded heart.

To be adamant in making the earnest efforts to practice the exercise and cultivate virtue
Subjectively, you must have persistent confidence and belief in practicing the exercise and cultivating virtue. Remember, you must have the unmatched determination to practice it successfully. In training external muscles, internal organs and disposition etc., you must make repeated efforts to pursue aggressive progress to exercise perseverance and strength, cultivate staunch spirit, and then you would have the ability to devote yourself to the society and human being.

To give alms and do good deeds positively
Life is evanescent. It is never too early to do good. The able should contribute his intelligence and wisdom more to create the welfare of the society, which will make it prosperous, brilliant and vigorous. The wealthy contribute money more to benefit the weak and round the imperfect society. The biggest power of giving alms is to abandon. If you can give up, you can pay. We should turn meanness into generosity. Abiding by the spirit and idea of inheriting and passing on to the posterity every day, The coaches of the Chi Kung take actions voluntarily to spend time, money, spirit, strength, and wisdom in teaching beginners the exercise for nothing. They sacrifice themselves to benefit others and the society without complaint and repentance. What they do is the model of giving alms and doing good deeds positively.


(B) The training in readjusting the following four minds

The training in purifying the mind
You should purify improper ideas and intentions in your mind and get rid of the evil thoughts such as avarice, hatred, obsession and jealousy etc. you should purify soul-polluted dirt to make your mind and body return to purification, clearance, and brilliance.

The training in setting the mind at ease
Put down all wrong persistence and confinements. Let the mind return to nature, in which nothing can restrain and obstruct it. It would be wise to put aside beloved persons, matters and things at the right time for a rest. Do not confine yourself. It would be good for you to go out for having a look at seas, skies or floating clouds. Lay down the burden of the mind to expand it to the extent that it would be as large as the universe, share the same root with the world, and unite with all God’s creatures as one. If you have no wrong persistence and no delusive ideas, then you could leave bitterness for happiness and enjoy it as you please.

The training in getting rid of the mind with various desires
Getting rid of all ideas of carnal desires, all desires for fame and power, and all avarice and fantasticality; getting rid of the bitterness which derives from failing to get what you seek; getting rid of wine, women, avarice, and pride; converting meanness into giving alms; converting violence into peace; converting sorrow, worries, sadness, bitterness, hatred, and gloomy mood as the situation changes or as the heart desires; converting wicked ideas into righteous ones; converting the bitterness in time of adversity into the merriness in time of bitterness. Only when “you get rid of the mind with various desires, you can free from the material world, “and get the joy of life.

The training in taking your mind off everything
If you are not disturbed by your senses such as eyes, ears, noses, tongue, body and mind etc. and the worldly thoughts such as visual form, sound, odor, taste, object of touch, and phenomenon etc., then the sensory desires and the worldly desires don’t arise, consciousness is unconscious. If there is no thought, no form, no wrong persistence, no treatment, no subjective and objective opposition, and then you cherish no egoism against the outer environment.


(C) Four trainings in controlling your breath

One inhaling and one exhaling make one breath. The first step of training in breathing deeply into the pubic region is to control your breath. It is better to breathe in a peaceful and even way, direct it deeply to your pubic region with attention. Your breath goes in and out in a soft and continuous way. It is forbidden to breathe in a quick, heavy or noisy way. Relax your body all over to make your pit of the stomach lower and your diaphragm relaxed, and then adjust your breath slowly to make it breathe smoothly. When you breathe evenly, begin concentrating your attention on counting the times of your breath, letting it breathe freely, listening to it, and even forgetting the existence of your breath.

Counting the times of your breath
It is necessary to adjust you posture, empty your mind, and abandon all of your distracting thoughts before you adjust your breath, so that you can count the times of your breath in a clear, calm and idle way with no delusions, no rigid insistence, no passion, and no confusion in your mind. Take deep breath 25 times firstly, the times of the breath the beginner takes should be increased in a gradual way. It is essential to stare at the tip of your nose for ten seconds with your eyes closed a little before you count your breath, and then close your eyes, and exhale co2 through your mouth. While exhaling, the upper part of your body leans forward a little with your perineum raised, your belly contracted and your diaphragm raised. The breath you take should be deep and slow and count them from 1 to 10, and then count them from the start again. It should be done 25 times in this way After finishing them, relax all over, close your mouth and you teeth together with your palate touched by your tongue. While Inhaling through your nostrils in a peaceful way, count them noiselessly. One inhaling and one exhaling make one breath. Count them while you inhale, however do not count while you exhale. Count up to 100 in this way, and then count from 1 again. You may count several hundred times as you please. But in the initial period of training, you should concentrate your mind on your peaceful and smooth breath. Hasty breathing sounds are not allowed. If you count your breath in a repeated and slow way, you must be able to stabilize your spirit, subside your distracting thoughts, feel your escalating body temperature, have the sense of warmth in your belly, perspire slightly and the saliva in your mouth will spring after you are skilled in it. The breathing air is transformed into energy through your mouth and nostrils. After a long period of training in your breath and proficiency in the exercise, you may drop the idea of counting your breath. Your mind will follow your breath closely. Each of your breath will reach the pubic region in your belly.

To pay attention to your rhythmical breath
When breath is transformed into energetic vigor, the uterus in the lower belly will produce slight warmth and it also will strengthen the movement of the stomach and the intestines to improve the digestion. As you improve your training, you will feel the air mass formed in your pubic region, its fullness and its powerful flexibility. At this time, you take the way of paying attention to your breath instead of counting them. As you inhale and exhale with close attention, you should concentrate your spirit on your pubic region with inward sight to make the biological energy strengthen constantly, heighten neural potentials, and make the blood circulate smoothly. The vital energy would flow through all of the channels in your body smoothly. At the moment, your illness would heal by itself, your immune anti-body and anti-aging function would increase.

To listen to your breath
At this time, you should not concentrate on seeing your pubic region inwardly no longer. Nothing can disturb your mind and you should concentrate it. Your mind follows your breath closely. Your spiritual consciousness feels the downward fall of your inhaling and exhaling only, and every breath runs deeply into your pubic region. Afterwards, your mind and your breath fall into a perishing state. The breaths inhaling and exhaling through your nose are not felt at all. Let your breath run its own course. You have no intention to train the energy, but the energy can train itself. Further, all of the perceptions and cognizance are forgotten, and everything goes into unreality. The mind and the breath fit in well, maintain discreet distance and are faintly discernible. Unconscious intention is the essential skill of training pubic region. Counting breath, paying attention to, and listening to them are complementary in training. The process is that your consciousness doesn’t get away from the state of silent counting languages when you count your breath; your consciousness follows your breathing when you pay attention to your breath; listening to your breath follows the rhythms of paying attention to your breath. As you pay attention to your breath, you listen to it. Let your breath run its own course. Your skill would be further elevated to the proficient state.

To forget your breath
The above-mentioned breathing ways are the methods of adjusting breath, but in fact, they are the good ones of adjusting your mind and cultivating your spirit, for counting your breath can prevent your mind or ideas from falling into disorder, make your mind and your breath follow closely and concentrate your ideas. Counting, paying attention to, and listening to breath can harmonize your mind and body, but they can’t make your training reach the state of perfection. In order to reach the perfect state, you must get rid of your worldly mind at last. If you still persist in counting, paying attention to, and listening to your breath without forgetting it, you can’t enter the state of perishing all of your ideas and immaculately complete silence. You should train yourself with a mind of no worries and no persistence to such an extent that you forget yourself completely and don’t feel the existence of yourself. Hence, you are in a state of sitting quietly in meditation, that is, a state of forgetting both mind and breath. The degree of sitting quietly in meditation depends on the individual training. Don’t have the mind to make the importunate search for it. If you search for it with an illusive mind, you could not reach the goal all the more, and other miscellaneous ideas would ensue. The above-mentioned training stages are not necessarily in a fixed order. If you are skillful, you can enter a state of sitting quietly in meditation directly or you can go into it according to your circumstance or your consciousness, which will always keep you in a training and nourishing state, and finally enter a stable one.

(D) The training in the following five rightnesses

The right mind
You should be frank and candid in both conducting yourself and treating with things. You should keep the straight and genial thoughts in your mind and behave rightly every now and then. You should keep peace and tranquility in your mind any time, which should not be influenced by your body and environment.

The right thought
you should hold honest thoughts in your mind. Do not distort facts. There are no confused and wicked thoughts.

The right knowledge
You should exercise the right perception, wisdom, and understanding over the right persons, matters and things.

The right point of view
You should hold the right cognition, and unprejudiced and wise judgments.

The right faith
You should have the right faith and culture, which can make you on the brilliant way to benefit the mental and physical health of humankind.


(E) The training in carrying out the following ten admonishments

Refraining from killing living creatures
You should cultivate benevolent and kind-hearted love. Do not show off power and fight ruthlessly. Do not slaughter innocent lives indiscriminately. You should cherish the lives and respect the meaning of life existence right.

Refraining from burglary
You should not commit the crime of burglary.

Refraining from indulging yourself in sexual desires
You should not be indulged in carnal pleasure and women or live in overly pleasures. You should use the rational morals to control yourself.

Refraining from talking baselessly or speaking ill of others
You should not talk falsely, speak offensively of others, scold others, and curse others.

Refraining from sentimental words
You should not flatter others excessively, gossip about others, or carry tales.

Refraining from avarice, anger, and hatred
you should not have the unjust idea of avarice in your mind. You should not ask for excessive things or those which you should not have. You should not cherish grudge in your mind. It is essential to always have mercy and gratitude in your mind.

Refraining from loving things with passion or wicked intention
You should not addict yourself to things with affection or wicked idea. You should have a right knowledge, opinion, or idea of them.

Refraining from addicting yourself to drinking or taking drugs
You should not take narcotics to distort your human nature. You should not take excessive drinking to avoid alcoholism, disgrace yourself and injure yourself.

Refraining from losing yourself to the bad habit of dishonest gambling
You should not be lost in gambling, or deceive or injure others by deceitful and wicked behaviors.

Refraining from framing others
You should not frame others by tricks, schemes, or doing improper matters.


(F) The training in carrying out the following ten ethnic morals

To emphasize manners and etiquette
It would make others grow their respect for you, if you abide by form and etiquette. It is essential to handle the matters appropriately, maintain the well- behaved standards of mutual relation, and be just and reasonable in doing things selflessly.

To be conscious of honest and shame
It is essential to be frank in doing things, be innocent in behaviors, abide by the law, have a sense of shame, and correct yourself if you are conscious of your wrong doing.

To pay respect to your teacher and his teachings
It is essential to respect the teachers who taught you and abide by the ethic standards.

The father is kind, and the son obedient
It is essential for parents to bring up their own children with kindness and love. Children should be filial to them.

A married couple should respect each other
Husbands and wives should respect and forgive mutually, communicate peacefully, respect each other as a guest, and take care of each other until the last day.

There exist real emotions between brothers
Brothers and sisters should support one another, help each other while in need, and assist each other in growing.

Seniors should cherish juniors and juniors should respect seniors
You should treat seniors with humility and respect, and cherish, support, guide, and show courtesy of manners to juniors.

There exists sincere confidence between friends
Friends should be honest and frank each other and keep words and they should not make promises lightly.

To live in harmony with neighbors
You should be friendly to the people who live in the same community with you, show your concern voluntarily, and take care of each other. You should create harmony, happiness, and content in your family.
